Mr. Dub

Mary’s father, Edgar, was a designer, entrepreneur, collector, artist, illustrator and lifetime ‘car-guy’ which can be seen in the myriad of original drawings, paintings and sketches he amassed throughout his life. He started his own industrial design firm in CT. His talents were many, most notably, his work on the Metroliner Train that still transports passengers throughout the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak as well as his design ideas that were incorporated into the initial style ideas behind the first motor home.

Mary’s grandfather, Alger Reason Westcott, was a renaissance man. A railway man with a sharp wit and an even sharper pencil! His drawings were ahead of their time. His other passion was writing and he has a published book of poems, Recompense.

Mary is also a creator and has been called a ‘serial entrepreneur’ by her close friends.

In 2013, Mary’s vision for an upscale, old-style general store in Belmont took shape and this is where she has ‘hung her hat’, so to speak. She envisioned a comfortable ‘meeting place’, reminiscent of the mercantiles of the early 20th century and this shop has become that for Mary. The shop has a comforting, old school feel to it where you can peruse, listen to the old crooners and drink in the fun!

After owning several other businesses, Mary decided that she wanted to own a business to have a platform to fundraise, partner with other businesses and to promote local, regional and international artisans. Westcott Mercantile has become a local and regional award winning favorite. You never know what treasure Mary might find at a flea market to add to her curated, eclectic mix. The store is always changing as she admits to selling even the displays. Mary has given new life to the hunt for that perfect gift and her creativity puts it all together in a unique package that the recipient will love!
